Mr. Shaw is an Associate in the Advanced Planning and Family Office Practice Group at Handler Thayer, LLP. He practices primarily in the areas of taxation, estate planning and commercial law. Mr. Shaw’s experience has included tax compliance, business structure planning, tax planning, estate and gift tax, trusts, wills, estate planning and charitable planning. He has represented businesses and individuals in federal and state tax examinations and controversies. Mr. Shaw has extensive experience in tax compliance for ultra-high net worth clients and their closely-held businesses, as well as the creation and execution of tax minimization strategies. He also has experience in international taxation as well as in the real estate, insurance, service and manufacturing industries. In addition, Mr. Shaw has performed pro-bono work, including tax compliance, wills and powers of attorney for low-income taxpayers and looks forward to opportunities to continue assisting the community. Prior to joining Handler Thayer, LLP, Mr. Shaw worked as an Attorney, Tax Associate for a tax and accounting firm as well as a Tax Analyst for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois.
Mr. Shaw received his Juris Doctorate Degree from the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University where he received a merit scholarship. He received his Master of Business Administration Degree from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University where he received a merit scholarship and served as a Graduate Assistant. In addition, Mr. Shaw earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance with honors from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.
